The Promise of Federal Data Center Optimization:
How Software-Defined Networking (SDN) Lowers Costs And Accelerates Performance
Federal agencies are under pressure to optimize data center efficiency and effectiveness. As agencies serve mobile users, manage expanding flows of data, and employ platforms, services and infrastructures as a service, these data centers must be dynamic, elastic and reliable. These imperatives are sparking fresh thinking about how federal agencies should approach network management.
A key challenge is that hardware-centric networks cannot support today’s and tomorrow’s innovations. Federal initiatives such as Cloud First, the Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI), and the Defense Department’s Joint Information Environment (JIE) are prompting agencies to explore software-defined models for their networks. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) provides services via software that is programmable, agile and can reduce costs while accelerating performance.
This event will examine how SDN capabilities address federal challenges relating to:
- Data center modernization
- Cyber security
- Legacy infrastructure
- Cloud First
